Bio

I am a cartoonist and illustrator from New Jersey, USA. Some might say that I got started in cartooning somewhat late in life.

I studied Computer Science at Rutgers University, and I've spent most of my adult life in that field. Yet, I've always had a quirky nature about me, experimenting creatively with in many forms. When I found cartooning, however, it felt like a natural medium for my 'quirk'.

My cartoons appear in various publications, including Airmail, The Times Luxury, The Wall Street Journal, Narrative Magazine, Alta Journal, and elsewhere.

Now that the holidays have passed, let’s do it again! This was our holiday card that I made this year. If you didn’t receive one in the mail, this one is for you - I could only make so many. 😄

I found a (copy of a) Polaroid photo from 1968. Our yearly vacation in Maine at Clement’s Camps. Mr. Clement would always take a Polaroid of a good fish catch. We were fascinated by the magical process of watching it develop.
In 2016, I had converted a bunch of 8mm films to digital, and I found the “taking of” this photo on film. I can see the moment in the video where he clicked the camera 😊🎣

Thanks to Bored Panda @boredpanda for featuring me in an article today, with Q&A and a selection of my cartoons.

This evening we were able to see the aurora borealis for the first time. I couldn’t really see it but the camera did. Anyway, this isn’t that, but earlier, the sun shone through a blowing Japanese Zelcova in our backyard and into a window, creating a wild pattern on the floor. I changed color tone and added simple notes in the style of a certain song that hopefully makes you think the guitar might join in.

No that’s not the sound you think😄. Our little side garden off the deck. It’s nice to hear water as we have coffee or during cocktail hour. The granite birdbath (heavy) serves as a catch vessel, drips down into a reservoir and gets pumped up. I set this garden up in 2016 I think. Birds come by, take a drink and a bath, especially during brutally hot and dry periods. The shrubs provide some cover for them. They also like to take pieces of my moss - pecking at it for worms underneath or as a takeaway to use for plush nest material. It’s worth the price though, to see them up close.

“Sure, my legs are long, slender, smooth and wooden…”

Because they’re branches, commonly known as pine knots. Fallen branches from a conifer tree in the woods of Maine at my cousin’s home.

The section of branch that connects into the tree are strong, dense, and full of hardened pine resin, or “pine pitch”. These legs would burn hot, I’ll tell you.

The grain pattern and the variation of color make these interesting to work with. I had 8 branches in total. I taped two together, hung them on a string to think about what to do, and it started this kinetic rocking motion, so she gets these.

The other branches were made into separate pieces.

I’m very excited that I will be alongside so many wonderful artists at the Princeton Art Bazaar on May 4th. (11-4). It’s my first time participating in an Art Fair.
This annual event is hosted by the Arts Council of Princeton, and besides having over 100 artists, there will be live music and a beer garden from Triumph Brewery.
I will have cartoons, artwork, and related items, and I will be introducing my Nature Wood sculptures, which I will talk about more in a separate post.

I hope you can attend this event!

Riding through the Sourland Mountains in East Amwell, NJ. This is one of my favorite places to ride the bike. This video was taken from a car, safely 😉. This is Lindbergh road, where Charles and Anne Lindbergh lived. (And where their baby was kidnapped in 1932). The home “Highfields” is still there and under stewardship.

Any plant that you can wear is alright with me.

Princeton Art Bazaar

I was a participating artist at the Princeton Art Bazaar on May 3rd, 2025. It was such fun. There were over 100 artists, a beer garden, music. It's in the heart of Princeton which is a wonderful place to spend the day.
